SSL certificates validate your website’s identity and keep the data it receives encrypted and safe. They do this by using encryption algorithms that “scramble” the data users enter into your website, such as names, passwords, and payment details. This makes it impossible for third parties to intercept sensitive data, such as passwords, email addresses, and payment information.

You can order your certificate through the Openprovider control panel in just a few clicks. After you purchase your SSL certificate, it will first need to be validated by the Certificate Authority (CA) that issues it.

The validation process for DV, OV, and EV certificates is slightly different. OV certificates require stronger validation than DV ones, and EV certificates require the most. You can read more about the validation process in the Knowledge Base (for EV certificates).

After your certificate is validated, you will need to install it on your server before it will be valid. You can find tutorials on how to do this in the Knowledge Base. After your SSL certificate is installed, it will immediately be effective.

Free SSL certificates offer a basic level of security, but there is no strong validation process involved with their issuance. Domains that use free SSL certificates have not verified their personal and business identities and could therefore be run by malicious third parties.
