The last newsletter of the year has arrived. 2020 has been a very moving year and some of you might already eagerly be looking forward to 2021. The domain industry has not had much hardship like most sectors had due to the Covid pandemic, but it definitely wasn’t a year like any other. In this last newsletter we have some interesting news about price changes, some updates about new gTLDs and more. Keep reading to learn more.
Holiday office hours
However, please keep in mind that our response time via email and phone might be limited due to reduced capacity. For this reason, we advise not to plan any big projects or migrations in this period where our assistance might be required. For example, registry bulk transfers or migration projects can not be processed during the last 2 weeks of the year.

Price increase .io
On the 1st of January 2021, the .io registry will increase its prices by $1,50. For Members, the new price for registration and transfer will be $37,50; the renewal price remains unchanged at $39,90. Tier prices will increase by $1,50 as well.
Price increase and whois change .ch and .li
On the 1st of January 2021, registry Switch will increase the price for .ch and .li domains by CHF 0,35. The new Member price for registrations and renewals will be CHF 4,75, tier prices will increase by the same amount. Transfers remain free of charge. Furthermore, the registry will start hiding all contact data of domain owner and technical contact from the whois.
Price reduction .bond
On the 16th of December, registry ShortDot will greatly reduce the price of their .bond extension. The Member price will drop from $700,18 to $50,18; tier prices will drop with the same amount. This price reduction applies to existing domain names as well.
The registry also confirmed that they will not run any premium domain names in their portfolio: all domains are equally priced, so grab this opportunity to register the .bond domains at the new, lower price!
Updates to the new gTLDs
- – .madrid has extended its pre-evaluation period until the 17th of June 2021. This means that new registrations will be activated only after review by the registry. That can take up to 5 working days.
- – Several extensions have migrated in the past weeks to new registry platforms. No action is required from your side; the only impact is a reset of the authorisation codes of the domains. You can find the new authorisation codes in your control panel or API. The migrated extensions are the following:
